Beaulieu River > Beaulieu River: Solent Moorings

The Beaulieu River is centrally located on the Solent and offers some of the most beautiful moorings and berths on the south coast.

One of the few privately owned tidal rivers in Britain, the Beaulieu River combines the best of modern facilities with tradition and outstanding natural beauty.

More than 300 moorings stretch along the river, with those closest to the entrance offering open views of the Solent. Perfect for watching the racing.

For those who prefer easy access to land, the marina at Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour is a pleasant 3.5 nautical mile cruise upriver from the Solent and offers over 200 fully serviced berths.

Whether you stay for a few hours, overnight, or even longer, you’ll always find a warm welcome.

Your gateway to the Solent

The Beaulieu River is within easy reach of popular Solent destinations, including Cowes and Lymington. Plus, with the New Forest National Park on your doorstep, there are plenty of activities and attractions to discover.

The marina is only 25 minutes from the M27, giving easy access from London, Southampton, Portsmouth and other south coast cities.

Things to do

Cycling in the New Forest

The Beaulieu River is so beautiful you may just want to sit and admire the view, but for those who like to explore, there’s plenty to discover.

Here’s just a selection… For more activities in the local area, please see our Things To Do section.

  • Get active! Walking, cycling, kayaking, archery… the New Forest has it all.
  • Museums & attractions. The historic village of Buckler’s Hard and its Maritime Museum are just a short walk from the marina, while the nearby village of Beaulieu is home to the Beaulieu visitor attraction and its famous National Motor Museum.
  • Eats & treats. From sumptuous fine dining to cosy cafes, you’ll find delicious fare in the local area.
  • Explore by boat. The lower reaches of the Beaulieu River aren’t served by a footpath, so the views from your boat are unique. Check out our route from Buckler’s Hard to Lepe, where the Beaulieu River meets the Solent.
  • Spot the Solent seals. The Solent is home to common and grey seals, which can regularly be seen on the Beaulieu River. One particularly cheeky one has even been spotted hanging out on visiting dinghies! Keep an eye out for them, particularly if you’re at the mouth of the river near the Solent. Please read this useful advice from The Seal Alliance on watching seals safely so as not to disturb them.
