To ensure the safety of our residents and customers, our marina is now equipped with lithium fire extinguishers, located at the fuel pontoon and outside the Harbour Office, designed specifically to handle fires caused by lithium-ion batteries. These specialised extinguishers provide a quick and effective response in emergencies, helping protect both boats and their owners.
• Use the appropriate charger: always charge your boat’s lithium batteries with a charger recommended by the manufacturer to prevent overcharging and ensure safety.
• Check for signs of damage: before heading out on the water, inspect your batteries for any signs of swelling, leakage, or damage, and replace them if necessary.
• Avoid overcharging: disconnect batteries once fully charged to prevent overcharging, which can reduce battery life and increase risk of overheating.
• Secure your batteries: ensure batteries are securely mounted or stored to avoid bumps or drops, especially when on the move or in rough waters.
• Proper disposal: our marina doesn’t have a battery disposal centre but if your battery is damaged or no longer working, dispose of it properly at a designated recycling centre.
Staying proactive about battery safety on your boat helps prevent accidents and ensures long-lasting performance while you’re out on the water. Your safety is our priority and we’re here to keep you safe. For more information, contact our friendly team at harbour.office@beaulieu.co.uk or call 01590616200.
