Built in Poole and launched on 20th October 1943, harbour defence motor launch HMS Medusa helped clear the way to Omaha Beach for D-Day, and we’re delighted to welcome her to the Beaulieu River to celebrate her 75th birthday.

HMS Medusa at Buckler's Hard

Recently returned from a squadron exercise with the Royal Navy, the aim of the HMS Medusa Trust is to keep this historically significant operational and at sea for as long as possible as a tribute to the veterans and to educate the next generation.

Come along to help us celebrate her birthday, with the chance to climb aboard and chat to her crew on Saturday 20th October (2pm – 4pm) and Sunday 21st October (10am – 4pm).

Make sure you ask them about their experience of filming the World War II movie Dunkirk, in which HMS Medusa took a starring role!

Voluntary donations to The Medusa Trust will be gratefully received.

Climb aboard Gipsy Moth IV

Saturday 27 October 2018 (10am – 4pm)

In 1966 Sir Francis Chichester set sail from his mooring at the Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour to become the first person to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe. Now his record-breaking yacht, Gipsy Moth IV, has returned to the Beaulieu River.

Visit us on Saturday 27 October between 10am – 4pm to step aboard and chat to her crew about her history.

Gipsy Moth IV at Buckler's Hard

After your tour, make sure you visit the Maritime Museum at Buckler’s Hard to discover the full story of the incredible Gipsy Moth IV journey – which included 226 days at sea, a staggering 29,630 miles, several floodings and a capsizing!

Don’t forget Beaulieu River visitors can present their mooring receipt to receive 20% off admission to Buckler’s Hard Maritime Museum for up to six people.* Resident mooring holders receive free admission to Buckler’s Hard Maritime Museum.

*The 20% discount applies to on-the-day admission prices. Not valid with any other offer or discount, and cannot be used with online advance tickets or family tickets. The mooring receipt must be presented within 1 month of issue date.

Tours of Gipsy Moth IV are free of charge but voluntary donations to the Gipsy Moth Trust will be gratefully received.
